About United Services Organizations

Since before the United States entered World War II, the USO (United Service Organizations) has been the bridge between the American public and the U.S. military. In times of peace and war, the USO has consistently delivered its special brand of comfort, morale and recreational services to the military. The USO, a congressionally chartered, private, nonprofit organization, relies on the generosity of individuals and corporations to support USO activities.

Today, the USO delivers its programs and services at more than 130 locations around the world. In recent years, the USO opened centers in Kuwait, Qatar and Afghanistan to support service members participating in Operations Enduring and Iraqi Freedom, as well as centers in Vicenza, Italy, and at the Dallas/Fort Worth, Raleigh/Durham and Denver International Airports.

About Guardians of the Jewish Home for the Aged

For nearly 100 years, the Los Angeles Jewish Home for the Aging has been lifting spirits, restoring health, and making the richness of life an everyday event for our community’s precious elderly. Each year, nearly 1.000 frail seniors are fortunate enough to have a wonderful new place to call Home.

Caring for our elderly Jewish mothers and fathers is a most rewarding way to give back to the vulnerable seniors who have bequeathed such a rich life and meaningful traditions to us all.

About Program for Torture Victims

For over 28 years, the Program for Torture Victims has been working towards alleviating the suffering and health consequences of state-sponsored torture among refugees and asylum-seekers in the greater Los Angeles region. PTV provides the supportive framework necessary to restore the well-being, identity, and dignity of survivors of torture.

The program has helped to heal over 3,000 torture survivors by providing free medical, psychological, and case management services; and by networking with other professionals on behalf of clients to access free legal aid, dental care, HIV/AIDS treatment, interpreter services, ophthalmology specialization and gynecological treatment for women who have undergone female genital cutting.

PTV\\\’s clients are victims of state-sponsored, paramilitary, or tribal violence whose only \\\’crime\\\’ was to belong to a particular tribe, clan, political party, social group, or religion. As the only torture treatment program in the Greater Los Angeles, an area that is home to the largest population of refugees and asylum seekers in the United States,

PTV serves clients come from 65 countries in Africa, Latin America, the Middle east, and Asia. In addition, PTV staff also write psychological and forensic evaluations and serve as expert witnesses in asylum cases. PTV is also dedicated to creating public awareness about the plight of thousands of people who are survivors of human rights abuses, about the after effects of torture, and about the personal and interpersonal process of healing.

The Motion Picture & Television Fund was created by such industry luminaries as Charlie Chaplin, Mary Pickford, Douglas Fairbanks and D.W. Griffith, who realized the need for reaching out to those in the entertainment industry who fell upon hard times. About New Life Beginnings

NLB is a grassroots community supported organization established by two homemakers who saw the needs of homeless pregnant women. Since their inception, they have purchased several buildings and shelter units that they call “Next Step” toward independent living.

The mission of NLB has been to provide pregnant women a safe shelter and the ability to deliver healthy babies with dignity, while learning to become contributing members of society breaking free from the welfare cycle. About Friends of the Israel Defense Forces

Friends of the Israel Defense Forces (FIDF) was created in 1981 as a not-for-profit organization with the mission of providing and supporting social, educational, cultural, and recreational programs and facilities for the young men and women soldiers of Israel who defend the Jewish homeland.

FIDF has assumed the responsibility of providing these soldiers with love and support in an effort to ease the burden they carry on behalf of the Jewish community worldwide.
